What Makes a Valid Breakout in Gold
The term XAU comes from the Latin "aurum" meaning gold. Useless trivia at parties, but knowing the symbol history helps me remember: gold is a currency, not a commodity. Trade it like one.
Identify Key Levels Using Multiple Timeframes
Friday NY session is different. Volume drops after 12 PM as traders close positions for the week. Low volume means unreliable price action. I rarely enter new trades on Friday afternoons. Too much noise, too little follow-through.
Wait for the Retest
After a losing trade, I close the charts and come back the next session. Emotional trading is the fastest way to lose. A loss is information — review it, learn from it, do not revenge it. A day off never hurt anyone.
Set Entry, Stop, and Target
Set your stop loss based on market structure, not a fixed pip amount. Structure-based stops mean fewer false exits. I used to use 20 pips on everything. Now I look at where the trade setup invalidates and put my stop there. Big difference — the difference between losing and learning.
Managing the Trade After Entry
Do not force trades. This is the hardest lesson I learned. Some days there is no setup. Those days I close the charts and do something else. Forcing a trade because you feel bored is the fastest way to lose money.
