Gold Trading Strategies for Asian Session
Asian session gold trading strategies. Learn how to trade XAUUSD during Tokyo and Sydney hours with lower volatility and range-bound conditions.
Most guides on this topic are written by people who have never traded real money. This one is different.
Asian Session Characteristics
I trade the US session exclusively. 8 AM to 12 PM New York time is when gold moves. I live in Singapore, so that means I am at my desk from 8 PM to midnight. The session you trade determines the quality of setups you see. It took some adjustment — trading from 8 PM to midnight is not natural — but it was worth it.
Range Trading Strategy
I spent six months testing a 12-indicator strategy. It was profitable on paper. In real trading, I could not execute it because there was too much information. Too many indicators create paralysis. I deleted 5,000+ indicators to learn this. Now I use three things. My trading improved immediately. Clarity is the real edge.
Breakout Preparation
If you cannot find 1:3 setups, either your stop loss is too tight or your take profit is too conservative. I widened my stops and targets and suddenly found better RR setups everywhere.
Risk Management for Asian Session
I calculate my position size before I look at the chart — that way I am not tempted to adjust my risk based on how good the setup looks. Position size determines survival. Discipline starts before the trade, not during, not after.
I have been trading XAUUSD for over a decade. Everything in this guide comes from real trades at my desk in Singapore — not from textbooks. Here is what I have learned.

Asian Session Gold Trading
The Asian session (00:00-09:00 GMT) offers unique opportunities for XAUUSD traders.
Session Characteristics
- Lower volatility (10-15 pip ranges typical)
- Range-bound price action
- Technical levels hold better
- Low volume = potential for sharp moves on news
Strategy 1: Range Trading
Identify support/resistance from previous sessions. Buy near support, sell near resistance. Tight stops (5-8 pips).
Strategy 2: Breakout Preparation
Set buy stops above Asian range high and sell stops below range low for London open. This captures the first move of the London session.
Risk Management
Asian session fakeouts are common. Use proper position sizing and don't overtrade in low-volume conditions.
